It is also stated that other professional gentlemen will in the near future come to reside in Shaw-ville. To all who intend removing here we might say, don't delay too long, as Shawville is bound to become the hub of the county, and the sooner yon are here the less will property cost you. More About The Lillie Powell Murder. Office- SO Montreal, January 10.—There is still another development in the Lily Powell murder case. A few days ago Rev. Mr. Powell, of Richmond, father of the murdered girl, received a letter from New York in which the writer related that in all probability he could throw a light on the matter as he knew of parties who had offered a considerable sum of money to have Powell and his daughter chloroformed and made away with. The writer did not want to make money out of tlio business but if Powell would put a personal in one of the daily papers hie correspondent would meet him and confer with him. As Mr. Powell did not feel inclined to take the trip, Mr. Belanger, the Crown prosecutor of the St. Francis district, took the matter in hand and his representative in New York is now negotiating with the mysterious informer. They aie on the beet of terms with the world ; they call sin by smooth names and soften hell away into hades; they cut and trim the Bible to fit their creed, and make their creed a vane to swing with the wind of their desire ; they turn the Sabbath into a day of feasting ana pleasure and worship into a means, not of stimulating the conscience and keeping It bright and keen and wide awake, but of appeasing it and lulling It to sleep. They call themselves liberal, advanced, p. gressive ; but look into those places where the young are being trained for God—will you find them there ? Look into those mission stations where the scum of the city are gathered to be cleansed and saved—will you find them there ? Look into our hospitals and asylums, where blessed charity watches the sick and binds up the wounds of the brokenhearted—will you find them there ? Look in where the diseased and dying are sinking away into eternity—will you find them there, staying up the weary head and administering cordials of comfort ? Their doctrine is very broxd, but what does it do ? How does it fit into the stern and solemn experience of life and make its possessor merciful and kind and Chrlstlike?—[Rov. R »bt.
